It feels like just yesterday when Meghan Markle welcomed her first child, Archie, into the world. Archie was born in May, though royal followers everywhere are already wondering if they will see another pregnancy announcement from Markle soon. In fact, some people seem to believe the Duchess of Sussex could have her second child next year in 2020. But why do fans think that and what are the odds of that happening?

People believe Meghan Markle will have another baby soon

Recently, a slew of pregnancy speculations started kicking off after Meghan Markle was seen dining at a pub. The Sun reported that Markle, Prince Harry, and Archie had a quiet lunch together near their home of Frogmore Cottage (though the pub denies the lunch). They were not disturbed by the other patrons and the staff members treated them like any other guests.

However, what is interesting to royal fans is that a witness spotted Markle drinking water instead of alcohol. Meanwhile, Prince Harry enjoyed “a couple of pints of beer.” Some royal fans want this to be a sign the duchess is expecting another child.

Prince Harry once said he would like to have two children, and sources close to the couple have shared that they allegedly do want to grow their family in the future. Given the fact that Markle is 38 years old, royal fans believe she most likely would want to get pregnant again as soon as possible after giving birth to Archie.

What are the odds of Meghan Markle giving birth in 2020?

According to the British betting site Ladbrokes, after the news came out of Markle ditching alcohol for water, bets started swarming in of a 2020 birth for the duchess. It got to the point where the website stopped taking these bets.

“Harry and Meghan clearly want to add to their family sooner, rather than later, and we’re no longer taking bets on an arrival before 2020 is out,” Alex Apati, a PR personnel for Ladbrokes, said.

Before the suspension of the bets, bookmakers at Ladbrokes actually had the odds of Meghan Markle giving birth in 2020 at 4/6.

What do experts have to say about Meghan Markle being pregnant again?

While royal fans clearly want to believe that the palace would announce another pregnancy for Markle very soon, experts following the family think differently.

Katie Nicholl, a royal author, shared with Entertainment Tonight that “it’s probably a little premature to be speaking about a second baby.” She also added: “They absolutely want siblings for Archie, so possibly we will have a pregnancy announcement for Meghan and Harry sometime next year.”

Meanwhile, health experts have pointed out that it could possibly be detrimental to Markle’s health if she tries to conceive again too quickly. Since she is over 35 years old, she is what the medical community calls a “geriatric mother.” Women in this age group are advised to wait at least a year after giving birth to try again for another baby.

“Research shows women who conceive within 6 months of giving birth are at 70{01de1f41f0433b1b992b12aafb3b1fe281a5c9ee7cd5232385403e933e277ce6} higher risk of preterm birth than women who space their babies from 18-23 months,” midwife Nabila Fowles-Gutierrez said. “Women, like Meghan, approaching 40, might feel pressured to leave closer gaps between babies. That’s understandable as pregnancy over the age of 40 is can be considered high risk. However, I would still not recommend or advocate leaving a gap of less than 12 months between babies.”

Whether Meghan Markle is truly pregnant is something we most likely will not know for sure just yet. The palace has a tendency to only announce the news of an upcoming baby when a royal woman has reached the 12-week mark – after the most dangerous time during a pregnancy has passed. Thus, we will all just have to wait a little bit longer to find out the answer.
