Drew Barrymore says she was once catfished on a dating app by someone pretending to be an NFL player.
The actor recounted her bad experience with online dating during Friday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
“This guy on my app said he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams,” Barrymore told co-host Ross Mathews, per a clip uploaded onto her TikTok channel.
Barrymore said she wanted to share that she had watched the team’s first practice game, so she messaged the person.
“So I wrote to him, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I went to the first practice game. I was so frustrated being a girl from Los Angeles who loves football, and we didn’t have any teams, and then I moved away to New York, and then we got two teams, and it’s nice to meet you. My name is Drew,'” she said, recalling the way she reached out to him.
However, she was disappointed when she learned the truth about his identity.
“He was not the quarterback for the LA Rams. He was a musician who thought he was being cute. How should I feel about this?” Barrymore said.
The 48-year-old then explained that she wasn’t trying to land a football player, but was “excited” to talk about how she had been at the Coliseum to see their first game in Los Angeles.
“And then the guy was like, ‘Hey Drewski,’ and I was like, ‘I hate you,'” Barrymore said, recounting their conversation. “You’ve made me feel stupid. I don’t know who you are. I don’t — I feel so dumb. Why did we have to get off on this foot? I hate you.”
This is not the first time the actor has spoken about her dating app experiences.
During a September 2020 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Barrymore said she did “terribly” on the app Raya.
“I got stood up, and I didn’t match with anyone. And my friends gave me this sort of bloated sense of false confidence. They were like, ‘You should try it. You will do great.’ It was a car wreck,” Barrymore said.
Barrymore split from her ex Will Kopelman in 2016 after four years of marriage. Barrymore and Kopelman share two daughters: Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9.
